HOW AN ACCOUNT IS RATED

On your TRW report, you will find 3 columns to the left. Each column represents an accounts current rating. You will find a letter designation in one of these columns. The letter "A" designates that the information reported was entered through an automated system, the letter "M" designates the information was reported manually. If the letter preceding your creditor name is in the far left column, it means that the account is positive, having no derogatory history or comments. If the letter is in the middle column, it designates that the account is not rated.  This could represent that the account is now current but may have had delinquent payments in the past. If the letter is in the right column, it designates that the account is in a negative status. Being that the account has been defaulted and charged off or that it has been sent to collections.

When referring to your CBI and Trans Union reports, your rating is defined as a number, "1" through "9" following your account type. Generally, "1" means the account is current or has been paid as agreed. Numbers "2" through "5" are progressive degrees of status on the accounts, being either past due or have recently been delinquent.  A "7" rating usually means that the account is being handled by a third party agency, such as a Consumer Credit Counseling Service. An "8" reflects a voluntary or involuntary repossession of an item. And a "9" would represent that the account was charged off (uncollectible) or is in the hands of a collection agency.

Therefore, any item which is not rated current within the last two to three years should be considered derogatory.
