AUDITING

"Auditing" is a method you'll use to perform your own verification and inspection of any account on your credit reports.  What your doing is requesting that the information being reported by the credit bureau is accurate and verifiable. (see sample letter, Appendix 4)

This task serves very important purposes.  First, if you receive no response from your creditor within 30 to 45 days, you have shown that verification of this account was not able to be obtained within a reasonable period of time, and therefore it should be deleted from your credit files. It's the law! Second, if you do receive a response, it should reflect the current status of your account, any outstanding debt owed, what your creditor is doing with your credit rating and if a change will occur. Finally, it will advise you of the next step required to complete your task.

We recommend that all negative accounts reported that are yours be "audited" before any further steps are taken.
